Keynote Speakers

The PharmaSUG conference kicks off on Sunday evening with our opening session. This year, we are featuring not one but TWO keynotes, each provided in TED Talk format. TED Talks are short, powerful 15-minute presentations. TED began in 1984, and has become a worldwide sensation for inspiring, educational and emotional talks.
Dr. Jerry Radich, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center
Dr. Jerry Radich is a medical oncologist at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center is Seattle, where he leads the Molecular Oncology Lab. Dr. Radich specializes in the molecular genetics of leukemia, and is a world-recognized expert in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). He and his team study why patients do or don’t respond after therapy- as he calls it, “the genetics of luck". Check out his TEDx talk, "Surviving Cancer: The Biology of Luck"!
Jevin West, University of Washington
Jevin West is an Assistant Professor in the Information School at the University of Washington where he co-directs the DataLab. He studies the Science of Science. His laboratory consists of millions of scholarly papers and the billions of links that connect these papers. He develops knowledge discovery tools to both study and facilitate science. In particular, he is interested in the origin of scholarly disciplines and how sociological and economic factors drive and slow the evolution of science. He also teaches a new class at the U of Washington on 'Calling Bullshit' where students are taught how to think critically about the data and models that constitute evidence in the social and natural sciences!
Pub Trivia Night

We'll use a similar format to PharmaSUG's 2017 Pub Trivia Night, with the help of an outside trivia company who will be running our 2018 Pub Trivia Night competition. All are welcome to play, including those who might not be SAS experts! Never fear though, our crack Pub Trivia conference committee members will be throwing in a bunch of challenging SAS questions! Come play along or just enjoy watching others compete. Either way, it's sure to be a fun evening. Refreshments will be provided along with a cash bar, and prizes will be awarded to the winning teams.
Casino Night with DJ and Karaoke
Tuesday, May 1, 7:30-11:30 PM
Cascade Ballroom
Kick back and enjoy the final evening of the conference with a return of our popular Casino Night- a fun-filled evening of casino games including blackjack, craps, roulette, poker, and slot machines! This event is perfect for experts and novices alike. It's also good statistical practice with no money involved. Professional croupiers and dealers will teach you everything you need to know about the games and ensure that everyone has a great experience. Card counters welcome!
If you prefer to simply socialize, there will be plenty of seating available. Refreshments and prizes are provided. This year's event will also include a DJ and karaoke!
Closing Session

Leaving so soon? Think again! Wrap up your PharmaSUG conference at our Closing Session. We'll announce the Best Paper winners, introduce next year's conference co-chairs, and get a sneak peak at PharmaSUG 2019.
